The U11s cricket side thoroughly deserved to compete in the East Region cricket Tournament at Chigwell School. They managed to overcome two strong teams in the previous rounds to reach this stage. Westbrook's first group match against Merchant Taylor's held extra significance as this match would also decide who would win the Herts County Cup!
Merchant Taylor's batted first and made a respectable 37 runs from their 8 overs. Westbrook started brightly with the bat, unfortunately though they lost late wickets and ended up losing the contest by 10 runs.
This was a bitter pill to swallow having to watch Merchant Taylor's lift the County Cup after your first game! This team however, are made of strong stuff and performed with great heart and skill in their next game against Beeston Hall. Westbrook batted first and scored a competitive 44 runs in their innings without losing a wicket. Beeston managed the same total, however Westbrook took the victory as they had lost two fewer wickets in the match.
In the final group stage match Westbrook managed a close five run win over Framlingham School. The group games were finished, however the drama had not finished as three teams in the group had won two matches! Merchant Taylor's, Beeston Hall and Westbrook. Unfortunately for Westbrook, Beeston Hall proceeded to the National Finals as they had scored more runs and lost less wickets in the tournament.
Well done to all the boys involved this was a brilliant effort which almost led to the National Finals!
