At Westbrook Hay, we are fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every pupil. Safeguarding is central to all decisions we make, with our values serving as the foundation for a strong safeguarding culture. We create an open environment where staff, pupils, and parents feel confident in raising concerns, knowing they will be listened to and addressed appropriately. Our policies ensure that support services and relevant agencies are involved when necessary, and we encourage everyone in our community to contribute to maintaining this safeguarding culture.
If you have concerns about your child or another pupil, please contact the school to speak with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). All staff and volunteers are trained to identify signs of abuse, changes in behaviour, and developmental concerns, given their regular contact with students.
The School’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy is reviewed at least annually by the Governing body, unless events or regulatory changes require a more frequent review. The safeguarding policies and procedures are consistent with the Hertfordshire local authority procedures and can be accessed via our Policies page on the website.
At Westbrook Hay, we understand the importance of early identification of abuse, neglect and exploitation and ensure the appropriate referral process is followed. Our recruitment policy includes DBS checks for staff and volunteers, in line with Hertfordshire County Council’s recommendations and current legislation. Mrs Taylor, our DSL is available to discuss any concerns parents or carers may have about our child protection policies and procedures. If she is unavailable, our Deputy DSLs—Mr. Baird, Mrs. Loveless, Dr. Llewington, Mr. Ross, or Mr. Lloyd—are available to assist.
