Eco Warriors - Eco School of the Year (primary)
At Westbrook Hay we are incredibly proud of our Eco Warriors who have been the driving force of new initiatives around the school that are helping to make our school a more ‘green’ environment.
- We encourage walking to school by hosting our walk to school weeks in the school, show the parents and children new routes to school and what a wonderful way it is to start the day.
- We host ‘switch off’ weeks when our teachers switch off their interactive white boards and computers to run their lessons
- Our gardening club successfully grow vegetables for our kitchen to use for school meals – reducing the school miles
- Families are encouraged to lift share and use our shuttle buses thereby reducing the number of cars travelling up the school drive
- We plant trees in our orchards for our leavers
- We recycle paper, print cartridges and batteries
- The kitchen uses local produce in the meals, aims to reduce all waste and to recycle any waste food
The school has successfully gained ‘Green Flag’ award with Distinction and been awarded Eco School of the Year (primary)!
