Last week the children at Westbrook Hay were lucky enough to celebrate Lunar New Year with a variety of activities. The entrance to the dining area was decorated and children enjoyed a themed lunch complete with fortune cookies.
At the youngest end of the school our Nursery Children enjoyed a whole range of activities across the whole week, meaning no one missed out. Mrs Adair kindly brought in some traditional outfits, so they all took it in turns to wear the outfits and headpieces whilst they learnt about how Lunar New Year is traditionally celebration Mongolia. They even had time to try some dancing.
Our Prep pupils enjoyed making Lanterns and learning about Lunar New Year in form time. Lanterns are often decorated with red and gold, which are symbols of hope, prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead. So pupils used red card as the basis before adding their own decoration.
Food is an important part of the celebrations, so Nursery ended their week by making some dumplings and biscuits. They took their time to tick every ingredient off the list before they shared the experience of making dumplings and using Mrs Adair’s special tool to decorate the biscuits. The whole of pre-prep smelt delicious!
