There can be few things as powerful as regularly reading to a young child. It has astonishing benefits for children: comfort and reassurance, confidence and security, relaxation, happiness and fun. Giving a child time and full attention when reading them a story tells them they matter. It builds self-esteem, and vocabulary feeds the imagination and even improves their sleeping patterns. World Book Day gives us another opportunity to celebrate the power of reading.
On World Book Day, our children have been involved in activities including a whole school assembly where we heard about ‘Reading around the world’. Children in Pre-Prep have been undertaking a Golden Book challenge and those in Y3-8 have been logging books read per continent with their English teachers. Well done to 4G who has read the most books across the world!
