A successful Year of Sport

A successful Year of Sport

Girls Sport
This year has been an exceptional one for netball at Westbrook, with record-breaking participation in our senior section. The increased numbers have allowed us to compete in senior competitions for the first time, marking an exciting milestone for the school. The squad was made up of players of varying abilities, including those stepping onto a netball court for the very first time. As new student Jemima shared, “I never thought I was sporty before coming to Westbrook, now I love it and netball has been the best.”

The U12 team had a fantastic run at the ISA competition, making it to the quarter-finals and only missing out on the semi-finals after a dramatic golden goal finish. The girls displayed excellent teamwork and determination, showing great promise for the years ahead.

Our U11 team also had an outstanding season, securing numerous wins and making a mark in competitions. A particular highlight was their gold medal victory at the IAPS Regional Plate Final. They also put in a strong performance at ISA and dominated their Wednesday match days on the circuit.

One of the most exciting teams to watch this season, the U10s had an incredible year. The A team remained undefeated at the ISA tournament, earning themselves a well-deserved gold medal. They also secured silver at the Haileybury Netball Festival after another tense golden goal finish, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats.

Our youngest netballers have shown remarkable dedication and improvement throughout the season. The U8 and U9 teams have been working hard, developing their skills and demonstrating fantastic potential.

Netball at Westbrook is thriving, and with such talent and enthusiasm across all age groups, the future looks incredibly bright. We can’t wait to see what next season brings!

Boys Sport
The highlight of another successful 12 months on the sports field is undoubtedly the U11A Boys football side winning the ISFA National Finals at St. George’s Park last summer. Since then, we have played fixtures in 20 sports with pupils enjoying some great experiences.

The boys’ U11 relay squad claimed gold at the National Athletics Finals in Birmingham after we enjoyed many successes at the regionals. Our gymnastics squad competed in their first ever regional competition in Milton Keynes too.

The U12A and U10A rugby sides have just finished unbeaten seasons following the U13As unbeaten football season. We hope that some of our pupils have qualified for the IAPS National Swimming Finals after fine performances at the regionals.

This term we hosted our Cross Country Meeting for over 260 pupils from 12 schools. We have also played golf, table tennis and Ki ball fixtures among other sports.

We continue enjoy hearing of the successes of former pupils. Watching the development of Luke O’Nien at Sunderland has been a delight and we congratulate Malachi Hardy on his first professional contract at Tottenham Hotspurs.
